I was basing this purely on bands. Besides the Beatles and Cilla Black, Liverpool has given us Echo & the Bunnymen, Julian Cope and the Teardrop Explodes, the Lightning Seeds, the Icicle Works, the Wild Swans, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, A Flock of Seagulls, and the La’s. Leeds has produced Soft Cell, Gang of Four, the Mekons, and Alt-J. Manchester has given us the Buzzcocks, Joy Division and New Order, the Fall, the Smiths, James, Inspiral Carpets, the Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, and Oasis.
